Nylon Rod is recognised as the most widely used and known engineering plastic on the market and for good reason. Nylon Rod has some useful features that has helped this most famous of engineering plastics into a material that currently outsells all other engineering plastics currently available. One of the reasons Nylon Rod is so successful is its ease of machine ability, Nylon Rod can be machined much easier and quicker than materials such as Bronze or Brass which have traditionally been chosen in past years. Nylon Rod is also much lighter in weight than Bronze which can help dramatically with reduced labour costs and reduced risks of injury connected with some longer bearings and components.

Applications for Nylon Rod
Nylon Rod is particularly successful at producing bearings of all dimensions that will withstand many harsh conditions and provide a bearing that will keep performing in a low maintenance and hostile environment. Nylon Rod is very abrasive resistant and has a low co-efficient of friction which improves the life of bearings and also reduces energy consumption when installed to further reduce ongoing costs.

Advantages of Nylon Rod
Nylon Rod is an excellent engineering plastic for shock resistance and absorption, this helps in specific environments where other materials pass on heavy repeated shock loadings that over time can damage other important and valuable components, Nylon Rod has very good electrical insulation properties that can prove very valuable in reducing risk or adding the advantage of having built in electrical insulation within a piece of plant. Another advantage of Nylon Rod is its resistance to corrosion, many traditional materials have the tendency for the bearing surface to corrode and break down with increased friction and an accelerated demise of important bearings. Nylon Rod is another engineering plastic that has excellent oil and chemical resistance to help provide a material that is very wide and diverse in its abilities. Nylon Rod is an engineering plastic that can be bonded with modern adhesives which is another major advantage and does give the user many more possibilities.

Grade Options for Nylon Rod
The two most popular grades of Nylon Rod are Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6, both grades are manufactured slightly differently but produce engineering plastics with very similar performance results. Nylon Rod is a very popular material for friction reducing additives that even further enhance the lifespan of a component.

One of the most popular additives for Nylon Rod is Molybdenum Disulphide or MOS2 for short, this is a black graphite like dry lubricant which helps reduce friction and improve bearing life in harsh environments and where maintenance and bearing lubrications are difficult.

Special grade oil is also added to the production of Nylon Rod, these grades are normally green in colour and have been proven to reduce bearing noise, reduce friction and dramatically improve bearing life, These nylons are slightly more expensive but will prove much more cost effective in the long term.

Temperatures for Nylon Rod
Nylon Rod has an impressive engineering plastic with a temperature range that has a maximum short term operating temperature of 160°C and Nylon Rod has a long term operating temperature that is 100°C.

Size Range of Nylon Rod
The typical commercially available range of Nylon Rod is from 4mm diameter up to around 500mm diameter, although Nylon Rod has been and is produced in much larger and impressive diameters to special order. Standard produced lengths for Nylon Rod can vary due to certain manufacturers resources and choices but in general Nylon Rod is made in 3M lengths up to approximately 150mm diameter and then can step down to either 2M lengths and then down to 1M lengths, this reduction in manufactured lengths is also a factor determined by the weight of the material.

Direct Plastics Online has an extensive range of this very important engineering plastic in stock and can offer Nylon Rod from 4mm diameter up to 500mm diameter. We also offer Nylon Rod in lengths which allow customers to purchase the optimum quantity they require for their application. Direct Plastics Online not only stock the popular natural and black grades but we have a huge range of the excellent oil filled grade, we also have a large range of the blue heat stabilised grade which is a Nylon that is more stable and can reduce any distortion due to any machining process.

Direct Plastics Online has one of the largest stock ranges of Nylon Rod and offer excellent prices along with rapid dispatch and a free delivery scheme.
