Nylon Sheet is an excellent Engineering Plastic that is well suited to machining on automatic equipment. It has high mechanical strength and good sliding properties. Nylon Sheet also has excellent wear, abrasion and good heat resistance. Nylon Sheet is one of the engineering plastics which has become one of the most popular and because of its all round performance has become probably the most well known of all the engineering plastics on the market today.
Nylon Sheet was first invented in the early 1940s to initially produce woman's hosiery but over the years Nylon Sheet has since been developed into all areas of our lives from carpets to toothbrushes.
There are two distinct versions of Nylon Sheet in the engineering plastics industry, the first being Nylon 6, this is the most popular grade of Nylon Sheet in Europe and is much more readily available and is more economical to produce. Nylon 6 Sheet is made from Caprolactam and is slightly softer and also can offer slightly better elasticity and more resistance to potential fracture.
Nylon 6.6 Sheet was invented before Nylon 6 Sheet in America by Mr Carothers and has a few advantages over Nylon 6 Sheet.
Nylon 6.6 Sheet is an engineering plastic that has slightly better abilities at higher operating temperatures and is slightly harder. Nylon 6.6 Sheet is moderately more expensive and available in a lower range of sizes and thicknesses. Nylon 6.6 Sheet is less popular in Europe due to the reduced range of availability but is still one of our most highly favoured engineering plastics.
