Nylon 66 is not only a very popular engineering plastic, it is one of the most well known and long established materials on the market today. This excellent engineering plastic is available in a range of sizes in both Nylon 66 Sheet and Nylon 66 Rod.

Applications for Nylon 66
Nylon 66 is commonly known as an engineering plastic that is most suited to high wear application, it is used in components and machinery as wear strips or wear blocks to provide a layer between moving components and will massively improve the lifespan of more valuable and non wear resistant components. Nylon 66 is also used as rollers, gears or pulleys in many varied situations from gym equipment to industrial lifting equipment. Nylon 66 is also used in modern bearings because of reduced friction. Nylon 66 is also used as machine handles and has even been used as imitation candles due to its similar appearance. Nylon 66 is often used in the automotive industry as gears in power steering pumps etc, because of its durability and longevity.

Benefits of Nylon 66
Nylon 66 Rod is not only more economical but it is also easier to machine than traditional materials such as bronze. Nylon 66 will often outlast bronze or brass and provide a bearing that will be much quieter and need less ongoing maintenance. Nylon 66 can often provide further savings by the reduced friction and helping provide a bearing that will take less energy to power. Nylon 66 can also help other components in the long term survival stakes due to its ability to absorb shock and vibration, this is not possible with traditional bronze or brass materials. Nylon 66 is used for machine handles because it will transfer much less heat or vibration than old fashioned metallic handles. Nylon 66 is also good in abrasive environments and will often allow sharp particles to imbed below the service and continue to provide its bearing performance.

Nylon 66 Rod
Nylon 66 Rod is normally commercially available in diameters from 6mm diameter up to 200mm diameter, black Nylon 66 Rod is commonly available in fewer sizes particularly at the larger end of the scale. Nylon 676 Rod is normally manufactured in 3 metre lengths and is often cut to size to suit customer requirements.

Nylon 66 Sheet
Nylon 66 Sheet is commonly available in sheet sizes of either 3000 x 500 or 3000 x 610 and thicknesses that commonly range from 5mm thick up to 100mm thick. Nylon 66 Sheet is often cut to size to best suit customer needs and typically the black Nylon 66 Sheet is available in a reduced range of sizes.

Nylon 66 is an extruded grade which means that the polymer is heated to become soft enough and the material is then forced through either dies or rollers to produce a material that is slightly oversize and then annealed to reduce stress and provide a more stable engineering plastic.

Specifications of Nylon 66
Maximum long term operating temperature is 100°C. Maximum short term operating temperature is 160°C. Melting point is 260°C. Moisture absorption is 7%. Coefficient of friction is 0.35 - 0.42.

Grade Options
Nylon 66 is available in either natural, which is also known as white and also black which usually contains MOS2 or Molybdenum disulphide which is a graphite type additive to help reduce friction and improve and wear resistance in harsh and low maintenance environments.

Direct Plastics Online offer a complete range of Nylon 66 in both rod and sheet and despatch Nylon 66 the same day with free carriage and lowest prices.
