Tufnol is a manufacturer of an excellent range of engineering laminates that have a huge range of application and unique uses. We have three of the most popular Tufnol grades available that offer mechanical properties as well as electrical and general purpose properties.

Because Tufnol is made of many layers of compressed laminations, Tufnol is a very rigid plastic but can have a greater dimensional tolerance. Another important feature of Tufnol and its construction is the fact that the rod is constructed in such a way that is not acceptable for use for gears as the teeth would delaminate.

Our mechanical grade is the Whale grade Tufnol, the high electrical grade is the Kite grade Tufnol and our general purpose grade is the 1P/13 grade Tufnol. Although we only specialise in the three grades, Tufnol do offer over 40 grades and have a grade that can perform in almost any application.

Because of the resin involved in making Tufnol, this product has a very low moisture absorption and also has excellent dimensional stability.

Whale grade Tufnol is our mechanical grade and is rigid, tough and has excellent wear properties, Whale Tufnol is often used for gears, pulleys, wear blocks, bushes and slideways etc. Our Kite grade is our high electrical grade and used for terminal boards, mounting panels, insulating spacers etc. Our general purpose grade is our 1P/13 grade Tufnol, this material is an economical plastic that does offer low electrical insulation and is more robust that our Kite. 1P/13 grade Tufnol is useful for jigs, fixtures, templates and general purpose fabrication.
