Direct Plastics Online :: Nylon 6 Rod

Our Nylon 6 Rod is a superb wear and abrasion resistant material and well suited to machining. Nylon 6 Rod has high mechanical strength and good sliding properties. Nylon 6 Rod is also stiff, has good creep stability and is resistant to many oils and chemicals. Our Black 6 Nylon rod has the very effective MOS2 graphite type self lubricant to help reduce stress caused by machining.

Nylon 6 Rod

About Nylon 6 Rod
Nylon 6 Rod is an excellent product that is probably the most popular and well known of all the engineering plastics. It has the advantage over Nylon 66 Rod in terms of product availability and also in terms of size range, Nylon 6 Rod does come in a much greater size availability range for both natural and black. Nylon 6 Rod also is slightly better in terms of impact resistance being able to absorb shock and impact a little bit better than Nylon 66 Rod. The other main advantage is with price, Nylon 6 Rod is even more economical in terms of price than the Nylon 66 equivalent.

There are two manufacturing processes used for Nylon 6, these are extruded Nylon 6 and Cast Nylon 6. They both have their advantages but in most instances, extruded Nylon 6 is chosen in the smaller size range (upto 100mm diameter) and Cast Nylon 6 is popular in the larger size range (over 100mm diameter).

Nylon 6 Manufacturing
As the name suggests extruded Nylon is extruded through steel dies at high pressure to create the rod. This can sometimes lead to a small amount of internal stress within the material which may be important. As the name suggests, Cast Nylon 6 is cast pound into moulds and allowed to cure, this means that cast nylon 6 will have less internal stress but because the process is more involved, Cast Nylon 6 could cost more.

Nylon 6 Rod Applications
There are many applications that Nylon 6 Rod would be suitable including rollers, pulley, bushes etc, this is because it can withstand high pressure loads being applied to it and Nylon 6 Rod has excellent wear resistance which this engineering plastic probably one of the most popular. Nylon 6 Rod is excellent where low ongoing maintenance is an option or required, this is an advantage for most engineering plastics and the black lubricated grade is even more wear resistant.
