Direct Plastics Online :: Acetal Sheet

Our Acetal Sheet is probably our best material for machining, giving an excellent finish both on manual and CNC Machines. It has very low moisture absorption making it the preferred grade for food contact and where dimensional stability is critical. Acetal Sheet has an ideal combination of high mechanical strength, hardness and toughness, giving it superb sliding properties, wear resistance and electrical insulation.

Acetal Sheet

Acetal Sheet is an extremely popular engineering plastic that is chosen for many unique and varied reasons. Acetal Sheet is a semicrystaline engineering plastic and it is a polymer manufactured by polymerisation of formaldehyde.

Acetal Sheet Advantages
Acetal Sheet is an engineering plastic that has so many unique advantages to offer and customers have many and varied reasons to use Acetal Sheet. It is probably one of the best engineering plastics around for machining as it is very easy to machine, leaves a very smooth and high quality surface and will suit modern high speed efficient CNC machines. Acetal Sheet is an exceptional engineering plastic for dimensional stability which means that high precision and close tolerance component can be produced and because Acetal Sheet absorbs almost no moisture and offers good creep resistance it will continue to remain accurate over a long duration and over a vast range of environments. Acetal Sheet has high mechanical strength, hardness and stiffness which help Acetal Sheet become an engineering plastic that is often replaced and substituted for steel or other metallic materials. Acetal Sheet is one of the best engineering plastics for is sliding abilities and has a lower coefficient of friction than Nylon Sheet.

Acetal Sheet Applications
Acetal Sheet has numerous applications and is particularly valued in the food preparation industry because of its low moisture absorption helping it have Food & Drug Administration approval and its excellent sliding abilities which help with very low friction and hard wearing food safe components.

Acetal Sheet is also one of the engineering plastics chosen within the automotive industry because of its long term dimensional stability and toughness it provides solutions for designers to help them produce long lasting and very durable components. Another area that has proved popular for Acetal Sheet is marine applications, this environment suits acetal because the low moisture absorption results in components that will not expand or change dimension due to any contact with water

Acetal Sheet Grade Options
There are two distinct grade options available of which most common and popular is the co-polymer grade. Co-polymer grade Acetal has slightly better chemical resistance and can help in any food production applications.

Homopolymer grade has lower thermal expansion along with slightly improved mechanical strength, stiffness and hardness that may help in specific environments, although this grade is approximately 10% more expensive and size availability range is more limited.

Acetal Sheet Temperature Range
Acetal Sheet has an optimum long term service temperature range of approximately plus 100°C and a maximum short term temperature range of approximately plus 130°C. Acetal Sheet can melt at a temperature of plus 165°C and Acetal Sheet also has a minimum operating temperature of between -30°C and -50°C.

Acetal Sheet Sizes
Acetal Sheet is typically produced in a variety of Sheet dimensions to suit individual manufactures choices, most popular sizes are either 2m x 1m or 3m x 500mm and current popular sheet thickness range from 2mm up to 70mm thick.

Acetal Sheet - Did you know?
Acetal Sheet was first manufactured in the 1950's and became commercially available in the 1960's. Acetal emits a very distinctive and unusual odour during machining which is very unique to acetal and acetal is currently unable to be bonded with any adhesives available at the moment.

Direct Plastics Online have an excellent range of all Acetal products in terms of range of thickness, size and colour. We stock Acetal Sheet in a range of cut sizes that provide our customers with options to help them choose a size that suits their requirements.

Direct Plastics Online offer one of the largest ranges of Acetal Sheet at excellent prices with rapid dispatch and a free delivery scheme.
